Glory vom Top Gun
Mother of the Year!
Glory vom Top Gun is a proven and dedicated mother who has had healthy, spirited litters. She seems to pass along her love of water, her extremely clever mind, and her mischievous personality. She is adventurous, loves retrieving balls, and solves problems quickly.
Whelping the H Litter: The decision to schedule a c-section for Glory was made because this litter is such an important pairing. Surgical whelping, which it incurs risk to the mother - as any surgery would - the special nature of this pairing meant we were willing to invest in the procedure to ensure the greatest number of live and healthy puppies.
Glory started showing signs of labor midday-Monday... nesting and increased clinginess to me. After a call to the vet, it was decided that she wasn't due for 2 more days, so we should consider waiting if possible. By 4pm, she was like glue and was trying to get comfortable in my bed (rather than the whelping box). Again, unusual behavior. The car was already packed, and I called the vet to tell them we were headed their way because it looked like labor. Glory had several contractions during the 50 minute drive. She immediately went in for blood tests and I grabbed the puppy basket and towels from the car. While we waited, Glory jumped into the basket, deciding it was the best whelping box available. I pulled out a towel and no sooner than put it on the floor than she had her first puppy. The vet tech caught him like a football low pass on 4th down. She was awesome, scooping him up and rushing him to the incubator after suturing his umbilical cord. Mr. Red benefitted from the heat and oxygen. Glory, meanwhile was looking all over for the puppy while being taken into surgery for her c-section.
Ten beautiful puppies were delivered, oxygenated, dried and kept warm while Glory was in recovery. The 7 males and 3 females were almost equal-sized at one pound to about 1.4 pounds each. They were all checked by Dr. Kunze and declared healthy and ready for the drive home with their groggy mother.
The H Litter - Day 10. Glory continues to rotate the puppies so there are always some sleeping while others are nursing. The litter is extremely well balanced. Weights on Day 10 range from 28.6oz to 37.4oz for males and from 32.8oz to 37.4oz for females.
